Olivia Blinds FAQs
Below are some questions and answers which we often deal with. If you have a question that is not covered here, please contact us.
What is a Roller Blind?
These are a usually stiffened polyester fabric, mounted on a metal tube and operated with a side chain or spring mechanism to provide a window shade or screen. The fabric wraps around the metal tube when not in use.
What is a Vertical Blind?
This form of window shading is made up of a number of strips of fabric (typically 127mm/5” or 89mm/3½” in width) hanging from individual carriers within a head rail / track. A very successful yet varying degree of shading can be achieved by the tilting of the fabric strips via the end control mechanism.
What is a Cubicle Track?
An extruded aluminium track system designed to be used as a curtain track within any environment requiring temporary lightweight screening. It is usually supported from the ceiling to keep the floor and walkways clear.
What does Anti-ligature mean?
An anti-ligature product is one that prevents a ligature from staying secure. The primary function of anything ‘anti-ligature’ is to deny anyone from using the product as a means from which to attach anything to inflict harm on themselves or others.
What is a Ligature?
A ligature point is anything which could be used to attach a cord, rope or other material for the purpose of hanging or strangulation. Ligature points include shower rails, coat hooks, pipes and radiators, bedsteads, window and door frames, ceiling fittings, handles, hinges and closures.
What is a Child Safe Blind?
A blind which is child safe by design is one that is cordless or has concealed or tensioned cords. Typically these products are pushed or pulled into position. They can also be traditional blinds incorporating in-built safety systems, such as a chain break connector where the chain is designed to separate under any undue pressure. Breakaway tassels at the bottom of cords work in the same way.
What is a Roller Chain?
This is the name given to the type of ball chain used most commonly for controlling the mechanism on a roller blind. By pulling this chain through the control mechanism, an increase or decrease of the level of shading is achieved.
What is a Louvre?
The name given to a single fabric strip used on a vertical blind to provide shading. It is usually made of a stiffened polyester fabric but can also be constructed from plastic or aluminium.
What is a Cassette Blind?
A cassette blind is typically a roller blind within an enclosed head box. It usually also includes side channels for the fabric to travel in as well. These channels limit the penetration of sunlight at the sides of the blinds. Depending on the type of fabric material used, this solution can offer a full degree of light block.
What is a Dim-out Fabric?
A fabric designed to control the amount of light entering a room. It is especially ideal for offices or spaces with larges windows allowing too strong a light to enter. They provide 100% protection against UV rays and can offer up to 68% reflection of incoming solar radiation.
What is a Screen Fabric?
A fabric that allows the user to see outside even when the blinds are closed. It shades from heat, glare and UV too, through closely-woven reinforced yarns. This fabric is available in a varying degrees of openness factor to suit north/south facing elements and client specification.
What does Recess Fix mean?
This is where something, such as your blind, fits on the inside of a recess (the inside walls of a window opening) as opposed to fitting flush to the wall within the room itself.
What is a Tracker system
The unique fabric retaining system by YewdaleDefiant® designed for use with roller blinds utilising side channels. It allows blinds to run freely and quietly but prevents the fabric from being pulled out of the channel due to air movement or impact. The fabric itself has a zipper ribbon welded to its edges which in turn is securely held in a specially designed side channel.
What is a Mono Control system?
A control system requiring only one operation to open, close and tilt. It makes shading control of vertical blinds simple and very easy.
What is a Fascia system?
A fascia system is a head box option which protects roller blinds from impact or light damage to their top and face profiles. It can add a fantastic finish to any blind installation, especially in reveal applications, as it can offer a more unified appearance with the window frame.
